A Happy Mother’s Day to All Mothers and to those who Mother!
This is a photo of my beautiful mother at 16.
Below is a photo of my parents’ wedding with all of their bridal party,
followed by one of just Mom.
One of my Dad’s brothers, my late Uncle Sam, is in the photo above.
He’s the one on the far right.
We miss her so much!
If you are still fortunate enough to have your mother, be sure to give her a huge hug today,
tell her you love her, and count your blessings!
Spring has been very tardy in coming this year, but it is finally here! As you can see from my photo, our daffodils are in full bloom. Forsythia bushes are a beautiful, buttery yellow and tulips are beginning to bloom, too. The weather is finally sunny and warm.
Hope you are enjoying a lovely spring wherever you may be. For those in the Southern Hemisphere, I hope your winter is not too cold!
Some time during this month, I will bring my website, Maria Michaels Designs, back into existence.
Included in that move will be this blog, Maria’s Quilt Scraps. It will be moved away from using WordPress to Maria Michaels Designs.
Watch for my announcement and the links when the change has been made.
Follow me there!
It is with deep sadness that I share the news that Mary Pauline Laughlin passed away on Friday, March 22nd, just 3 months short of her 101st birthday.
Subscribers of The Quilt Pattern Magazine and of my newsletter and blog, will remember my articles about Mary Pauline and her quilting.
She was a lifelong crafter and had booths at the Dixieland Mall and the Daisy Craft Fair for many years. She received awards for painting, rug hooking, and quilts. A picture of one of her quilts is displayed in the Library of Congress Archives in Washington, D.C.. She was also interviewed for Quilters’ S.O.S. – Save Our Stories project in 2008, for the Alliance for American Quilts. It has been recorded. You can read the interview at the Alliance for American Quilts.

Mary Pauline will be remembered with love and appreciation by many.
Today is National Quilting Day.
What did you do to mark the day? (I began quilting the quilt I’m making just now – a double-bed size full of appliqués.

A rose? In January? Unbelievable, but true!
These two have decided not to let go. Granted, they don’t look quite the way they do in summer, but they are persistently hanging on. We’ve never before seen a garden rose at this time of year, but here they are and here they stay. A few dried leaves have decided to keep them company, for the time being at least.
If you still have some flowers in your garden, please leave a comment and tell us about them.
Our neighbours, knowing how much my husband loves Snoopy and all things Peanuts, surprised him by leaving this Charlie Brown Christmas Tree on our front porch.
Looks just like it, doesn’t it?
What a delightful gift it is!
We love it!
