Book-A-Round 2 . . . Inspired by Tradition
Welcome to my stop in Kay Mackenzie’s Book-A-Round, virtual book tour!
First, for tour visitors who are new to my blog, I will introduce myself. I’m a quilt designer who started quilting in 1985 and designing in 2001. I also teach quilting online at QuiltCampus. Last year, I was both privileged and excited to become the editor of a new, online only, quilt magazine. The Quilt Pattern Magazine debuted in January 2011. Click here to learn about it and to subscribe. I have also created a website where quilters have a special place to sell their quilts online – Quilts for Sale. To date, it represents 114 quilters along with their 508 quilts.

In fact, Kay was one of the first quilters to place a quilt on Quilts for Sale, and her quilt became our first sale! I am so pleased to be able to count Kay as a friend as well as a colleague.

Kay was recently a guest on Pat Sloan’s Creative Talk Radio. Did you miss it? If so, you can still tune in to listen to it – after you’re done reading this and have taken part in the draw, of course! (More on that later.)
It is also available through Amazon.ca and Amazon.com where you can view lovely photos of every design included in the book. Yet another choice is to purchase through Martingale® & Company.
If you have just joined this book tour, you can still go back and visit all the stops along the way. Click here for links to each day’s visit and to read everything you missed. Each quilter introduced a different aspect of Inspired by Tradition. – It began with a video presentation, then went on to point out the special features of the book, such as back basting, the designs, the CD with 5 pattern sizes to choose from and print for each block, using Kay’s designs for scrapbooking, methods of appliqué, and using brightly coloured fabrics.
You will also enjoy the Appliqué Questions and Answers section of the book. Don’t think you have the patience? Having trouble with points? What to do if your fabric shreds easily? Those are some of the questions Kay is asked. Get the book and read the answers!
If you are new to appliqué and at all hesitant, this section will assure you that, yes, you too, can appliqué, and can begin enjoying the fun of creating these designs. Imagine how the addition of appliqué will enhance your quilts and open up new and wonderful possibilities! I highly recommend this book along with Kay’s first, Easy Appliqué Blocks: 50 Designs in 5 Sizes Experienced and beginning appliquérs will enjoy the patterns and the projects that can be made from them. Both will be a welcome addition to your quilt book library.

To win a free copy of Inspired by Tradition, leave a comment here by 10 p.m. (EDT) Thursday night. (There is only one restriction. Winning books can only be sent to Canadian and American addresses.) (Return visitors please note the change in this paragraph and in the sentence that follows, where I had made date errors. My apologies!)
Tune in Friday when I will announce the winner.
Be sure to visit Kay’s All About Appliqué page to get the link for the next, and last, stop on the tour!
